Very few meals were attempted in the first months of our marriage. And I guess if I really have vowed to be overly honest with you blog readers, maybe I should change the word months in that sentence to years. Jay and I once took an honest look at the meals dined in to meals dined out ratio and found, well, we eat out a lot.
Remember this post from my newlywed days where I used my rolling pin for the first time?
Tasty and Tortuous Tuesdays are a look at our misadventures in food and fitness. We are inconsistent in both, and experts at neither. So the title tasty and tortuous can really apply to either food or fitness on any given day depending on the scenario.
Today, we're hoping for tasty. I've got a freezer full of meat I'm trying to work my way through.

An Explanation and Some Foreshadowing
In going with the organization of Kelsey's and my blog, we're going to try to dive into a different topic every day. My lovable rants on the rest of the world can still be found at my old blog (which can be found here: theshinyforehead.blogspot.com). I will still update that blog occasionally, at least until my wife tells me, "It's stupid for you to have four blogs, just post on our mutual blog." Luckily for me, she hasn't called me stupid (about that) yet.
I'll be responsible for the Monday blogs on this site (as well as others). Why? Because they are boring. Am I a boring writer? No. I am a very exciting writer. You are clearly thrilled by what you are reading right now. You can barely contain yourself. Well CALM DOWN. Your acting up is embarrassing you and me (especially you though). Nope, I am responsible for the Monday blogs because eventually they will become ruminations on work, work-life, life, finances, etc. I planned to start off today by writing about how I budget, but would a reinvigorated blog be best served by immediately diving into Excel spreadsheets and tight budgeting? If you answered yes, I agree. However if you answered no, you are probably in agreement with the rest of Blogonia. I'll sneak in the budget blog at a later time, when you least expect it.

New and Improved?
K: Welcome to the new and semi-improved blog. Dah-duh-duh-dah!! It has tabs – yay!, it has links – ooo!, and it has a THEME!! – ahhhhh!
J: Kels, just because we added a feature to our blog that was created in 1998 doesn’t mean we need to explain it.

Bring it on, 2011!!
We're all resting up at the Schmitz household today after a night of good food, great friends, and many laughs last night. But 2011, it's gonna be a good one, I know it already.
Jay and I decided today to make some changes to our blogworld, and if you're reading this post, you may have already noticed some of those changes. It's a work in progress, so stick with us.
Further explanation will come tomorrow, and we hope you 6 0r 7 readers enjoy one of our goals to be more consistent bloggers. We'll see how it goes! : )

What I did on my Summer Vacation: Part 1
June:
We kicked off the summer with a rockin' 80's reception to celebrate the wedding of my best friend, Allison, and her husband Brent.
As you can see, the evening started out as a normal wedding reception.
But as soon as Brat Pack Radio, a fabulous 80's show band hit the stage, the tone of the evening changed completely!

Um, mullets anyone?

Shortly after, it was off to Texas to visit my college roommate, Barb.
We started in Houston and hit up the movie tavern. Movies + tavern = great idea!
The next day it was on to meet Ian and to see the Astros play a little baseball!
Our next stop: San Antonio.
We started the day on the Riverwalk and took a boat tour to get ourselves oriented. Beautiful!

Next, Jay had the best hot dog of his life. It was a kosher hot dog wrapped in bacon, with grilled onions, shredded cheese and a little mustard on it.
and I had a very large margarita
We spent the rest of the evening in San Antonio with Barb and Mitch, went to the Alamo, and later met up with Ian and Rachel at a real Texas Honky Tonk.

Ian brought Jay this "country" shirt.
We ended our trip to San Antonio at El Mercado, the Spanish market. Open 24 hours a day.
And if all of this wasn't enough, we squeezed in a quick visit to Dan and Christina the night before we flew home. Texas is exhausting!
Stay tuned for July!
